How to convert Word to Markdown
- Click Choose Word file, or drop a
.docxon this page. - The Markdown appears in the editor, with a formatted preview beside it. Fix anything you like.
- Copy the Markdown, or download it as a
.mdfile.
From Google Docs or a web page? Select the text, copy it, and paste it into the editor: it becomes Markdown as you paste. (Ctrl Shift V pastes plain text instead.)
What you get
- Headings become
#,##,###— from Word's Heading styles. - Bold, italic, links, lists and tables become their Markdown forms.
- Pictures are extracted and kept in your browser, referenced as
images/…. File → Download .zip saves the Markdown and its pictures together. - Left out: comments, tracked changes, text boxes and page layout — Markdown has no place for them.
Private by design
The .docx is read in your browser and never uploaded — useful for internal documents you're moving into a wiki, a Git repository or an AI prompt.
